The newly re-imagined S.P.Q.R. Art Space  announces five new classes starting on January 8th.  Taught by renowned artist and teacher Brett Andrus, and still located in the edgy alley art gallery space of S.P.Q.R., each round of classes lasts for nine sessions, and costs just $175 for all nine classes.  To reserve, or for questions, please email Brett at s.p.q.r.artspace@gmail.com.  S.P.Q.R. Drawing 101

Starting Monday, January 8th at 5:15 $175
If you have never drawn before, or feel rusty on your drawing skills, this is the class for you!
Students will be taught basic sight reading, handling of media, artistic vocabulary, still life and
life drawing, and introduction to perspective. This class is the perfect starting point for all classes
in the S.P.Q.R curriculum. Drawing is the backbone for all art making. If you learn how to draw,
everything else will become just a little easier. Dip your toe in, test the waters, and see if you like
making art.

Oil Painting 101

Starting on Monday, January 8th at 7:15 pm, $175                                                                                                                      Have you been curious about oil painting? This class for you! Students will be given an introduction
to oil paint and knowledge of how best to utilize this medium, including basic color mixing, still life,
life painting, and an introduction to art history. No oil painting experience required, but a basic
knowledge of drawing is preferred.

 

Professional Practices

Starting on Tuesday, January 9th, at 5:15 p.m. $175                                                                                                                You've chosen the path of an artist. But how do you feel about the business side of your art?  Are you
ready for some guidance on taking your art career to the next level?  As a student you will learn the best
ways to develop your portfolio, approach art galleries,promote your repertoire, and navigate other
professional aspects of the trade. This class will also cover conceptual art theory and design theory,
as well as opening up the eternal artistic question -- why do you do what you do as an artist?

Oil Painting Studio

Starting on Tuesday, January 9th at 7:15 pm $175                                                                                                                       This class is designed for the more advanced student with some training in oil painting. Students will have the opportunity to work on their own ideas while receiving critique and process pointers from both the instructor and other students. This is a class that is meant to help with accountability and your growth as a painter.

Sound Smart at the Museum

Starting on Thursday, January 11th at 6:00 pm $150                                                                                                                Picture this.  You are at an art museum with a significant other, you walk up a piece, and BAM! You know
what it is! Where it came from and info about the artist. Sound Smart at the Museum is an art history
lecture where students will be introduced to the big important stuff throughout the history of art.
Dots will be connected, lines will drawn, stories will be told! This is class is for anybody who has an interest in why humans make art.
